High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The Yucatan small-eared shrew (Cryptotis mayensis) is a species of mammal in the family Soricidae. It is mainly known from lowlands of Guatemala, Belize and Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, where it has been found in dry scrubland and tropical dry forest at elevations below 100 m. It is threatened by deforestation. A shrew or shrew mouse (family Soricidae) is a small mammal classified in the order Soricomorpha. True shrews are also not to be confused with West Indies shrews, treeshrews, otter shrews, or elephant shrews, which belong to different families or orders. Although its external appearance is generally that of a long-nosed mouse, a shrew is not a rodent, as mice are, and not closely related to rodents. Shrews have sharp, spike-like teeth, not the familiar gnawing front incisor teeth of rodents.
