There is a well-documented record from High Island, Texas, in 1984, but this is the only record for the United States. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests, subtropical or tropical mangrove forests, and heavily degraded former forest. The vireos are a group of small to medium-sized passerine birds (mostly) restricted to the New World. They are typically dull-plumaged and greenish in color, the smaller species resembling wood warblers apart from their heavier bills.
