Yuriy Galkin is a double-bassist and jazz composer of Russian origin, based in in United Kingdom. He completed his post-graduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music under a full scholarship and has been based in London since 2005. In 2008 he founded the nine piece Symbiosis Jazz Orchestra which performs his own compositions. In October 2009, the orchestra recorded its first CD which contains seven of Galkin's original pieces. The Royal Academy of Music in London, England, is a conservatoire, Britain's oldest degree-granting music school and a constituent college of the University of London since 1999. The Academy was founded by Lord Burghersh in 1822 with the help and ideas of the French harpist and composer Nicolas Bochsa and in 1830 was granted a Royal Charter by King George IV.
