The original Zombie Hut was a popular Polynesian themed restaurant in the city of Sacramento, California located at 5635 Freeport Blvd.Opened in 1945, the restaruant was eventualy purchased by Ed and Beatrice Hill who operated it for nearly forty years until they sold the establishment to Bruce Brooks shortly before its demise in the mid 1980s. The local Sacramento eatery is remembered by many for its food and entertainment. Polynesian dancers and singers would perform regularly. The restaurant is something of a 50s icon to the South Pacific theme that permeated throughout the United States in the 1940', 50s and 60s.The restaurant was family owned and operated for most of its history. This included husband and wife entrepreneurs Ed and Bee, their daughters Whenona and Marybee and even a grandson Terry working as chef in its later years. The restaurant also employed a number of local residents of Hawaiian and South Pacific descent, including former Manager Albert Fakalata, now lead musician for the Sacramento based Aloha Polynesia dance company.
