USS Trumbull (1799)
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! USS Trumbull, the third US Navy ship to bear the name, was an 18-gun sloop-of-war constructed by naval agent Joseph Howland between 1799 and 1800. Construction of naval ships and expansion of the US Navy was authorised by Congress in response to large losses of merchant ships in the so-called Quasi-War between the United States and France.

The second Trumbull was a three-masted, wooden-hulled sailing frigate and was one of the first 13 frigates authorized by the Continental Congress on 13 December 1775 and were superior in design and construction to the same class of European vessels in their day. It`s keel was laid down in March or April 1776 at Chatham, Connecticut, by John Cotton and was launched on 5 September 1776.

He is one of only five cyclists to have won all three Grand Tours, and the only cyclist to have won each more than once. He won the Tour de France in 1978, 1979, 1981, 1982 and 1985. He came second in 1984 and 1986 and won 28 stages, of which 13 were individual time trials. The other four to have achieved at least five victories are Jacques Anquetil (1964), Eddy Merckx (1974), Miguel Indurain (1995) and Lance Armstrong (2003). Even among these elite riders, he is the only one to have finished either first or second in each Tour de France he finished.
