Graveney played for Gloucestershire County Cricket Club (Captain 1959–1960), Worcestershire County Cricket Club (Captain 1968–1970), Queensland and England in 79 Tests and was a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1953. He is also the uncle of the former England chairman of selectors, David Graveney, and the brother of Ken Graveney.
