It is also known as Indiana`s First State Capital and as Historic Corydon. In 1973, the district comprised the old statehouse and the square around, and in 1989, it was extended so that it extends to Indian Creek in the north and west, College Avenue in the east, and Little Indian Creek to the south. Eight buildings within the district were standing when Corydon was the capital of Indiana.

Hermine developed from a tropical wave which moved off the coast of Africa on September 11. It began to cross the Caribbean over the next several days, thought a there was no evidence of a closed circulation. Finally, by September 20, a well-defined circulation became present; this allowed the system to become classified as Tropical Depression Eleven. Over the next few days, it strengthened into Tropical Storm Hermine and nearly became a hurricane before it made landfall in Belize as a strong tropical storm.

Originally scheduled to be played in the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California, it was moved to Durham, North Carolina, due to fears about an attack by the Japanese on the West Coast of the United States following the attack on Pearl Harbor. The United States government had ordered that large public gatherings on the West Coast of the United States were to be prohibited for the duration of the war, and the first significant canceled event was the Rose Bowl Game scheduled for New Year`s Day, 1942.
