The first match between these two sides was played at the Ennio Tardini Stadium (Parma`s home stadium) and it ended in a 1–0 victory for the home team. The following leg was then played at the San Siro in Milan with this encounter ending in a 1–1 draw for the home side. This was also AC Parma`s very first UEFA cup final victory, with Juventus having won several in the past.
