Like most of the ships of her class she was originally known only by her designation, USS LST-1069, and, like all remaining LSTs, was renamed on 1 July 1955. She was named for counties in Alabama, Illinois, Michigan, and Missouri.

It is an octahedral transition metal complex in which three bidentate oxalate ions act as ligands bound to an iron centre. Sodium acts as a counterion, balancing the -3 charge of the complex. Crystals of the hydrated form of the complex, Na3.xH2O, are lime green in colour. In solution the complex dissociates to give the ferrioxalate anion, 3-, which appears a deep apple green in colour.

In 1919, Yu, Kwan-Sun was a student at Ewha Womans University`s high school in Seoul, where she witnessed the beginnings of the March 1st Movement.
